<p>Genevieve Dickey Whetstone, affectionately known as "Gee Gee," passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 28th, 2025, at the remarkable age of 98. Born in Cave Creek, Arkansas in 1926 to Floyd Dinsmore (Tobe) Dickey and Cynthia Leona Dickey, Genevieve lived a life marked by dedication, service, and an unwavering love for her family and community.</p><p><br></p><p>At 18, Gee Gee embarked on a new chapter, moving to Washington D.C. to contribute to the war effort at the Pentagon's War Crimes Commission where she gathered information crucial to the war efforts. It was there she met her beloved husband, Douglas Murphy Whetstone, a proud WWII Marine veteran. They shared a loving marriage until his passing in 1982.</p><p><br></p><p>Genevieve was a woman of many talents and a tireless work ethic. She applied her accounting skills at Richmond Hotels, Inc., the Baptist Foreign Mission Board, and Southern States. She also played a vital role in the success of her husband's company, Whetstone Upholstery in Carytown, and other businesses like America's Carpet Gallery.</p><p><br></p><p>Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, evident in her active membership at both Oakland Methodist and Walmsley Methodist Churches. Gee Gee was a devoted volunteer, generously giving her time as an officer to the United Methodist Women's Group, the Bethlehem Center and The Hermitage Methodist Senior home.</p><p><br></p><p>A true advocate for the arts, Genevieve had a deep love for the theatre and cherished her trips to see Broadway shows in NYC and particularly her journeys to visit her daughter in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. She took immense pride in the accomplishments of her daughters and grandsons throughout the years. Even in her nineties, her immense strength and boundless love were apparent as she selflessly cared for her disabled daughter, Janet, until Janet's passing in December 2021. Genevieve was also preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, and her sister, Anna Jane Dickey Ecker.</p><p><br></p><p>Gee Gee's compassionate spirit and steadfast presence made the world a better place. She'll be profoundly missed by her friends, Betty and Ruthann Wallace, and her loving family, including her youngest daughter, Cynthia A. Whetstone Doran, and her grandsons, Joseph Douglas Doran and his wife Melissa Parker Doran, and Floyd Nolan Doran.</p><p><br></p><p>A graveside service will be held 12 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2025, in Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newbys Bridge Rd., Chesterfield.</p><p><br></p>
