<p>Mattie Peters, age 90, passed away peacefully on July 2nd, surrounded by love and the warmth of those who cherished her. A woman of quiet strength and timeless grace, Mattie touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering kindness. Her life was filled with compassion, resilience, and love.</p><p><br></p><p>Mattie was born in Bonny Blue, Virginia, on November 4, 1934, to her parents, Luther and Ruth (Terry) Peters. She was raised in Pennington Gap, VA, and later moved to Ohio with her then-husband, Preston Taylor Jr.</p><p><br></p><p>In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Ricky Taylor; brother, Tommy Peters; sister-in-law, Betty Peters; brother-in-law, Bill Allen; and son-in-law, Roger Stephens.</p><p><br></p><p>Mattie is survived by her daughters, Karen Stephens and Donna (Tim) Beneke; sister, Nancy Allen; grandchildren, Alicia Sanders and Amanda (Andy) Thompson; step-grandchild, Zach Stephens; great-grandchildren, Liam Sanders and Ava Thompson; and step-great-grandchildren, Jordan and Sarah Stephens. The memories and love they shared with Mattie will live on in their hearts forever.</p><p><br></p><p>Mattie cherished and took great pride in all of her grandchildren. She also adored her “grandpups,” who visited often and brought her joy. She was a strong, stubborn woman with a heart of gold—always there for her family and friends, spreading love, caring for others, and checking in with regular calls. She enjoyed attending doll shows, antiquing, and selling her treasures at flea markets. Her incredible strength, her joyful heart, and her passion for life will be remembered by all who knew her.</p><p><br></p><p>A graveside service to celebrate and remember Mattie’s life will be held on July 7th at Sugar Grove Cemetery on North State Route 503 in West Alexandria</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
