<p>Guillermina García, age 83, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.</p><p><br></p><p>She was born on June 25, 1942, in La Quinta, Durango, Mexico, to Juana Arias. In 1972, Guillermina immigrated to the United States with her three eldest children to reunite with her hardworking husband and build a new life in Chicago. Together, they welcomed three more children and established deep roots in the community.</p><p><br></p><p>Known for her warmth and generosity, Guillermina shared her love through the art of traditional Mexican cooking. Her exquisite tamales, mole, buñuelos, tortillas de harina dulces, and especially her famous pan ranchero were loved by all who had the joy of sitting at her table. She also had a gift for crochet, lovingly creating dresses, doilies, table covers, and cherished keepsakes for her family.</p><p><br></p><p>At the age of 50, while working at Hydraforce in Lincolnshire, IL, Guillermina was diagnosed with cancer. She fought bravely and entered remission, remaining healthy until her passing. She continued working at Hydraforce until her retirement in 2009, proudly dedicating 17 years to the company.</p><p><br></p><p>Above all, Guillermina was a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Felipe García, and her dear son, Gilberto García.</p><p><br></p><p>She is survived by her loving children: Maria Teresa (José) Velasco, Juan Felipe García, Alicia García (Juan Sierra), Carmen Maritza (Daniel) Murillo, and Elisabet García.</p><p><br></p><p>Her legacy continues through her adored grandchildren: Lee Anthony Velasco, Beisabel Velasco (Edgar Vences), Joseph Velasco, Nicholas (Sierra) Velasco, Gilberto Samuel García, Zachary García, Ashley García, Alondra Lizbet Sierra, Xavier Agustín Sierra, Kaitlyn Leah Wright, Isabella Murillo, Sofía Valentina Murillo, Alexander Morales, and Lucas Morales.</p><p><br></p><p>She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren: Tyler Lucas García, Amara Ryan Bowes García, Joaquín Javier García, Jasleen Laila García, Prince Manuel Santiago García, Jaylen Chayse Scott, and Cameron Chancellor Scott.</p><p><br></p><p>Guillermina is also survived by her loving siblings: Juana de la Cruz, Maria del Rosario, Ramón, Martina, Elisa, and Nabor.</p><p><br></p><p>The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Guillermina through her illness.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will take place on Monday, July 7th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey &amp; Rios Funeral Home at 4540 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago, IL.
