Joanne Grace Coppock Scott

Joanne Grace Coppock Scott, 63, of Chandler, Arizona, was born on July 4, 1961, in Newark, New Jersey, and passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025.

She was the beloved youngest of five children born to the late Bertram A. Coppock, Sr. and the late Blondell Sims Coppock of Tempe, Arizona. Joanne is survived by her loving siblings: Dr. Atiba Coppock, Beryl Coppock Baker, and Karen Coppock Fletcher. She was preceded in death by her dear brother, Michel B. Coppock, Sr.

A devoted aunt and great-aunt, Joanne’s nurturing spirit lives on in the lives of her nieces and nephews: Akua, Safiya, Jerome III, Kellen, Drew, Joi, Michael Jr., and Camille. She cherished her role as a great-aunt, much like her own Great Aunt Evelyn Spaights. Joanne was also a loving cousin to Glen, Blondell, Mark, Scott, Lauren, Jesse, Janice, Delbert, Rene, Trenee, and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Joanne began her undergraduate studies at Fisk University and graduated in 1984 with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Dillard University, where she became a proud member of the Beta Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She furthered her professional development by completing the Certified Public Manager Program at Arizona State University.

Her dedication to service and community was evident in every aspect of her life. Joanne was an avid volunteer, notably supporting causes close to her heart, such as the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. She was a founding and steadfast member of the Sisters Reading Books East Valley Literary Club, participating faithfully for over 20 years. Her love for literature was only matched by her love for coffee and dogs, which brought her simple, everyday joy. She also found happiness and strength in the regular gatherings with her beloved Sisterfriends group, a circle of connection, laughter, and support.

A woman of deep faith, Joanne was a committed and faithful member of Tanner Chapel AME Church, where she served her community with grace and humility.

Joanne will be remembered for her intellect, her laughter, her warmth, and the unshakable love she showed to family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know her.
