He was a dedicated Federal Government employee, working for the Office of Personnel Management for 43 years.

Andy was a proud Suffolk High Red Raider and standout for their basketball team in the 1960’s. Many still talk about his famous two-hand set shot and he loved to exchange stories with his teammates and coach, with whom he remained close. He was an avid supporter of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy athletics in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and enjoyed supporting his children on the basketball court and baseball field. Andy was also a coach, umpire and referee for the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association for 15 years. Sports were a major part of Andy’s life and his competitive spirit lives on in his children and grandchildren.

Andy lived in Suffolk for most of his life until he moved to Maryland in 2021 to be closer to his family. He found so much joy in watching his grandchildren play basketball, soccer, baseball, flag football and compete in dance competitions. He was their biggest cheerleader and his presence on the sidelines will be sorely missed.

Left to cherish Andy’s memory are his children, Shelley (Patrick) McGinness, Allison (David) Roth and Andy (Andrea) Dunn; and his beloved grandchildren, Erin and Ashley McGinness, Kevin and Emily Roth, and Owen, Connor and Kellen Dunn. Of all of his accomplishments, Andy was most proud of being Pop Pop. He was so proud of his 7 grandkids and his memory will live on in their humor and love of sports.

The family will be holding a private graveside service. R.W. Baker and Company Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, charities that meant a lot to Andy.

A celebration of Andy’s life will be held in the fall so that the friends and family he loved so dearly can come together and share stories and memories. Details will follow.
