<p>Peter Vincent Bologna, lifelong builder</p><p><br></p><p>Peter Vincent Bologna passed away peacefully on Monday morning, June 9, 2025, at the age of 82, with his beloved wife at his side.</p><p><br></p><p>Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Bologna was a proud third-generation Italian American of Sicilian descent. He spent most of his life in the Grosse Pointes. The second-oldest son of James and Lena Bologna, he was the grandson of the founder of Leto Construction-a family business he would dedicate his life to continuing and growing.</p><p><br></p><p>After earning a bachelor's degree in psychology from Villanova University, he began his career with Procter &amp; Gamble before returning to the family construction business. Over nearly 70 years, he worked with Leto Construction and founded Bologna Building Company, earning a reputation for his sharp design sense and strong negotiation skills. He was widely respected as a builder and developer.</p><p><br></p><p>One of Mr. Bologna's most enduring contributions to the Grosse Pointe community was the development of 131 Kercheval, a commercial building he built and operated for many years on The Hill. It now houses part of the Henry Ford Medical Center.</p><p><br></p><p>He was a longtime member of the Detroit Athletic Club and cherished his Italian heritage. As a boy, he was often found reading comic books under the scaffolding at construction sites across metropolitan Detroit. Friends and family remember his infectious smile, kind demeanor, and fun-loving spirit.</p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his wife, Patricia Bologna (née Phillip), and her siblings: Peter Phillip and Juli Zahler (née Phillip). He is also survived by his siblings: Jim Bologna (Patty Bologna), Tony Bologna (Nina Bologna, née Giacalone), and Maria Misuraca (née Bologna). He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his eldest brother, Dominic Bologna; sister-in-law, Barbara Bologna (née Zastrow); and brother-in-law, Tom Misuraca.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will take place Thursday, June 19, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park. He will lie instate on Friday, June 20, from 11:30 a.m. until the time of his Funeral Mass at 12 p.m. at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lake Shore Road, Grosse Pointe Farms.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to <a href="//stpauleducationaltrust.org/donate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">St. Paul Educational Trust</a>&nbsp;170 Grosse Pointe Blvd., Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236 or Our Lady Star of the Sea Educational Fund, 467 Fairford Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. Checks should be made payable to Our Lady Star of the Sea and notate Educational Fund in the memo.</p><p><br></p>
