Jan S. Davis

Jan Lee Sheppard Davis

September 14, 1959-April 14, 2025

Jan was born September 14th, 1959 to the late Harry Joe and Alice Sheppard. In addition to her parents she is proceeded in death by her brother-in-law Charles Hill. She is survived by her husband Jeff Davis. Her children Stephanie and Nicky Bragg, Drew and Stacey Davis, and Natalie and Drew Harrison. Her nine grandchildren Faith Bragg, Jaylee Boan, Summer Harrison, Lynnlee Bragg, Davis Harrison, Dani Davis, Jackson Bragg, Jeffrey Davis and Paxton Davis. She is also survived by her siblings: Harry and Lynn Sheppard, Patty Hill, Martha and Chuck Harris, Billy and Rochelle Sheppard, Mary Kimbrough, Sandra and Douglas Teston, Jill and Len Mock and Johnny and Joy Sheppard. Brother and sister-in laws Brett and Tracy Davis and Deanne and Tommy Griffin. She is also survived by a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Jan and Jeff made a unique couple. Both make friends wherever they go and made it clear that all were welcome in their home. Between the two, they had lots of interesting guests. Jan and Jeff entertained family weekly with their new outdoor kitchen. Adults enjoy conversation while kids play all around.

Stephanie is Jan’s oldest daughter. She was known as the rule-breaker and possibly gave Jan a few gray hairs, but she is also the most loyal child. Stephanie depended on her mother and the opposite was true as well.

Drew was her challenging child. Punishing him was impossible. Jan would take away his four-wheeler and he would go hit carpenter bees with a bat. She would take away his bat and he would grab a stick.

Natalie, the baby, got everything she wanted according to everyone, but the thing she wanted most was her mama. The bond they had was unbreakable. Jan was Natalie’s best friend, confidant and amazing mother all wrapped into one. They saw each other almost every day and Jan was there for her no matter what.

To say Jan was a wonderful grandmother is an understatement. Every birthday/occasion was a major celebration with a theme. She got a life size bear to hide in the woods for bear hunts. She made sure the bear moved to keep it challenging. Every Christmas the kids received a personal visit from Santa Claus and the Grinch. There were cake and cookie decorating parties where each child got to work on their own. Disney trips, cruises, there were no limits on adventures she planned for her kids. There were Friday night sleepovers, a well-stocked snack drawer and mini fridge. And the word “no” wasn’t allowed in her house.

She was one of nine siblings. The nine Sheppard kids were raised by a strict Midwestern Mother who ran the show, and a fun-loving, adventure seeking father who cooked up adventures for the whole gang. Like the trip to Tybee to cook breakfast at the beach. Or taking all of the kids out of school every year to go to the St. Patrick’s parade in Savannah. Let’s just say Jan took after her daddy. Like Daddy, Jan never met a stranger. And she loved planning adventures for her kids and grands.

If you knew Jan then you also know her identical twin Jill. Jan and Jill were identical from beginning to end. They had their own language, shared the same thoughts, shared wardrobe, and often showed up at events in identical outfits without consulting each other.

Jan was a stellar member of the traveling sisterhood of Sheppard sisters. They had a long tradition of traveling together. They celebrated birthdays in October and March with trips. Traveling to North Carolina, North Georgia, all the lakes in Georgia, the Bahamas, San Francisco, Mexico, Cuba and the favorite trip that Jan planned-Central America Cruise.

Jan attended Screven County Schools, graduating in 1977. She went to work at Torrington soon after and worked there for 36+ years. Jan was a giver not only at home but also at work. She always made everyone feel special whether bringing cupcakes for birthdays or keeping the production control cabinet filled with everyone’s favorite food.

Jan had a special relationship with the beach. She could truly hear it calling and she had to go. She and her twin would load up on a minutes notice and head for Tybee. The annual trips to the beach grew through the years until we were renting the biggest house on the island then multiple houses.

Jan was in faithful attendance in Barney Beasley’s Sunday School class. She knew Jesus as Lord and Savior and was confident of waking up in Heaven.

Visitation will be held in the Family Life Center of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

Memorial services will be held after the visitation at 2:00pm in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania with Rev. Clint Sheppard and Wes Withrow officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.

You may sign the online register book www.joineranderson.com.

Joiner Anderson Funeral Home Screven Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
