<p>PRESQUE ISLE - Dany Wayne Smith 69, died on April 6, 2025 at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle. Dan was born January 09, 1956 at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage Alaska, the son of Donald and Frances (Perkins) Smith. He spent his childhood in North Dakota, Louisiana, and Presque Isle, Maine. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1975, while there he was a member of the cross country team, the track team, and the chess team.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>After high school Dan enlisted in the U. S. Air Force and spent 6 years as a Signals analyst. He spent a year in Shemya AFB, Alaska and the remainder of his enlistment at Fort George Meade, Maryland. After his enlistment, Dan worked for Litton Corporation, Magnavox Electronic Systems, and Computer Science Corporation, as a defense contractor. He received his BS degree in computer science from the University of Maryland in 1988, and his MS degree in Business Science from the National Louis University in 2004. He eventually went to work for the National Security Agency where he retired in 2021 after 28 years of government service.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>While in Maryland he met his wife, Karen. He has one son Christopher. After his retirement he and his wife returned to Presque Isle. He is survived by his wife Karen (Enders) Smith; their son Christopher Smith of Presque Isle; his brother Steven Smith of Crouseville; sister-in-laws Roxi Smith of Crouseville, Carol Martin of Ashland, and Lynnette Thaler of Altoona PA; and 10 nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his brother Donald Smith.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, send donations to: Atlantic Salmon for Northern Maine, Inc P.O. Box 833 Presque Isle ME 04769. A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Caribou. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
