Jacqueline (“Jackie”) Brown Miller of Charlotte, NC, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025.

Jackie was born on June 18, 1937, to Gladys and Paul Allen in Charlotte. The fourth of five Allen children, Jackie grew up on a small farm on Willow Oak Road and graduated from Myers Park High School in 1955.

In 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, Craig Brown. Jackie would jokingly say she fell in love with Craig in part because he looked like Elvis Presley (her other love). She loved being a stay-at-home wife and mother of their three children.

In a life centered on her Christian faith, Jackie was very well versed in scripture. Growing up, her children would often find her reading her Bible late at night. Jackie’s unwavering love for her family and friends was evident in her nurturing spirit and countless acts of kindness. To all who knew Jackie, she had a heart of gold and was such a giving person. She taught us by example that following God is a journey, not a destination.

Jackie was active in the Charity League of Charlotte for many years and led her daughters’ Girl Scout troops. She was an active volunteer at Charlotte Country Day School when her children were attending. Jackie was a member of her bridge club for more than 50 years where she enjoyed lifelong and treasured friendships. She also served as a board member for The Salvation Army, taking Craig’s place on the Board after his passing in 1990.

As a widow, Jackie’s adored grandchildren became the center of her life. “Mimi” was known for her wonderful baking and kind heart. She would do anything for her children and grandchildren. All the grandchildren looked forward to overnight stays at Mimi’s house and spending time at her beach house on Seabrook Island.

A decade after Craig’s passing, Jackie went on a group tour to Europe. On the trip she met Ken Miller, a confirmed bachelor, and found the second love of her life. Together, they enjoyed 21 years of married life, traveling, laughing and spending lots of time with family and friends. Jackie later said she never thought that she’d find a second true love—one of her many treasured blessings.

In living a life of faith, Jackie believed Corinthians 13:13: Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love. We were blessed by her love.

Jackie was preceded in death by her husbands, Craig Brown and Ken Miller; her sisters, Margaret Young and Pat Rush; her brother, Paul Allen, and brother-and sister-in-law, John and Doris Miller. She is survived by her three children, Craig Brown, Libby Noelke, and Sharon Mack (husband Richard), her sister, Eleanor Allen Helms, seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, and nine nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Southminster Retirement Community for the wonderful care they provided. The dedication of Nurse Jackie Black, as well as multiple CNA’s that took great care of our mother and showed her love throughout her journey. The family is also deeply grateful for the kind and loyal care of her longtime caregiver and friend, Susan Evans.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Southminster Retirement Community (8919 Park Road) on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 11:00 am, with a reception preceding the service at 10:00 am. In remembrance of Jackie’s zest for life and her love of the Lord, we encourage those who attend her service to wear bright, joyful colors to celebrate her journey to Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Charlotte (https://www.hpccr.org), Samaritan’s Purse (https://www.samaritanspurse.org/), or Salvation Army (https://give.salvationarmyusa.org) in Jackie’s memory.
