It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" M. Martinez on March 09, 2025. Bob was born on August 18, 1941, in Naugatuck, Connecticut, to Tony, Angie Martinez and older brother Anthony, first-generation Italian immigrants who instilled in him a strong work ethic and dedication to family.

While pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mathematics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute he met the love of his life, Dotty.

After graduating from WPI in 1963, he joined IBM. He then took military leave to fulfill his ROTC obligation in the US Army, where he rose to 1st Lieutenant. His mathematics degree, IBM experience, and Army Intelligence School training in early computing secured him a Pentagon assignment, sparing him from Vietnam deployment.

Bob and Dot married in September of 1965 and spent their first few married months in Washington DC as he finished his service. Bob then returned to IBM Poughkeepsie in 1966, beginning a distinguished career in technology. He would spend nearly three decades making significant contributions to the field of computing including a patent for job schedule processing. His expertise took him around the globe, with assignments in Japan, France, Australia, and throughout the United States.

He warmly welcomed international colleagues and their families to family dinners and outings who were temporarily assigned to Poughkeepsie. These professional connections blossomed into lasting friendships. Bob and Dot often planned their vacations around the world to include visiting these friends.

A man of diverse interests, Bob had a passion for travel whether by car, air, or train. He was an avid photographer who captured beautiful moments of people and places throughout his journeys. His meticulous nature was evident in his hobbies of stamp & coin collecting and building World War II model airplanes and vehicles. His remarkable model airplane collection includes every World War II plane flown from every country participating in the war. Highly interested in politics, watching his Sunday morning shows was as important to him as Sunday football is to others.

Above all, Bob cherished his family, friends, and the colleagues he worked with throughout his career. He was open, tolerant and curious about cultures, ideas and ideologies different from his own. His warmth, wisdom, kindness and genuine interest in others left a lasting mark on all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Dotty; his daughter Janet and her husband Brian, and their daughter Brianna; his son Douglas and his wife Frances, and their daughters Audrey and Iris; his cousin Judy and many nieces and nephews. They will carry his memory and legacy forward with love and pride already feeling your love, prayers and support. Thank you.

A service celebrating Bob's life will be held on March 29th at the First Congregational United Church of Christ 269 Mill St, Poughkeepsie. 1:00 pm Visitation with the family; 2:30 Service followed by a reception in the church Fellowship Hall.
