<p>John Herbert White, 86, of Augusta, KS, passed away peacefully, Saturday, February 1, 2025 in Wichita. Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta, KS. John was born in Cherokee, IA on December 4, 1938, to the late Reverend Vernon and Beatrice (Thorsness) White. John cherished spending summers boating and camping. He also enjoyed genealogy, collecting tools, and all things Ford. On August 30, 1959 he married Barbara Jean (Dennett) White at First Baptist Church in Augusta, KS. He is survived by: daughter, Gay Gillies and husband Steve of Augusta; son, Thomas White and wife Kendra of Wichita; grandchildren, Jayden Gillies (Kelli), Tessa Peterson (Scott), Nellie Dechand (John), Reagan White, and Ryker White; great grandchildren, Brock and Connor Gillies, Fiona and Henry Peterson; sisters, Virginia Bender of Casa Grande, AZ, and Joan Martin and husband Bruce of Bear, DE. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Barbara of 63 years. Memorial donations to First Baptist Church, 1501 State St. Augusta, KS 67010 or Augusta Historical Society, 303 State St. Augusta, KS 67010. </p>
