Dwight W. Horning - 73 of Fargo ND, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025, after battling cancer.

Dwight William Horning was born July 2, 1951, to William Horning and Frances (Proefrock) Horning. He spent much of his early years living on the “Ridge” in North Fargo, attending Fargo North High School, and loved working on cars. After high school, he started working for the Fargo Public Schools, just like his father Bill. He worked there for over 40 years in several capacities across the district. After a few years on the job, he met and fell in love with the love of his life Sherri Walock, and they married in June 1979. The following spring they welcomed daughter Jenni and 4 years later son Christopher. Dewey and Sherri loved camping with the kids. They eventually picked a permanent spot on Rush Lake where they made many lifelong memories and friends. Dewey loved fishing with friends or in the morning solitude, which was the name of one of his favorite boats. He also enjoyed hunting when he could go with family- especially his son. Later in life, he got to enjoy his most prized title after husband and father, Papa. Spencer blazed the trail for Colby, Zoe, and Kiera to follow. Dewey loved his grandbabies. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with them from the baby stages to teenagers, it didn’t matter. There wasn’t an event that he didn’t enjoy attending or watching for them, from dance to hoops or softball, band concerts, and anything they did in between, he enjoyed every minute.

He was preceded in passing by his parents William and Frances Horning, father and mother-in-law, Bryce and Marlyn Walock, brother and sister-in-law Shane and Rhonda Walock.

He leaves behind, his beloved wife Sherri, daughter Jenni (Josh) Maus and son Christopher (Kristjen) Horning, grandchildren: Spencer Prestegaard, Colby and Kiera Maus, Zoe Horning, sister Shelley (Dean) Smith and nephews: Chad and Ben Walock, Brandon and Brent Smith.

A service to remember and celebrate Dwight's life will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 1:00pm at West Funeral Home in West Fargo, ND. Visitation with the family will be held the evening prior, Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 6:00pm-8:00pm, with a prayer service beginning at 8:00pm. Burial will take place following services Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo, ND.
