<p>John (Jack) Bernard Joynt Jr., age 93, of Laurel, Maryland, passed away peacefully at Friends House in Sandy Spring, Maryland on January 27, 2025. Jack was born to Mary Elizabeth (Connelly) and John Bernard Joynt Sr. on December 10, 1931 in New York City, New York. &nbsp;Jack was the proud brother to Joe and Patricia.&nbsp; At age 10, he moved with his family to Tysons Corner, Virginia.&nbsp; Later as a teenager, Jack’s family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland.&nbsp; Throughout his youth, he enjoyed spending time with his cousins in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where his family had a cottage.&nbsp; </p><p>In 1948, at age 17, Jack joined the National Guard. He served in the U.S. Army on Active Duty from May 1951 – October 1954. Sergeant Joynt was awarded the Commendation Medal for his leadership and vast knowledge of wire communications.&nbsp; He was as a Team Chief in the Signal Corps. He earned the United Nations and National Defense Service Medals, and a Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars for his service in the Korean War. </p><p>After serving in the U.S. Army, Jack graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, in Blacksburg, Virginia known as VPI or Virginia Tech. &nbsp;He attended the Computer Institute in Washington, D.C., from 1959 – 1962, to learn computer programming. In 1963, he became a computer programmer and thereafter spent his career at General Services Administration (GSA), in Washington, D.C., where he made special friends he treasured for his lifetime. </p><p>Jack, age 32,&nbsp;married the love of his life Mildred (Millie) Helena Murphy, age 25, in Silver Spring, Maryland, on&nbsp;May 11, 1963.&nbsp; They had their first two children (Verda &amp; Vonda) in Battle Creek, Michigan and their youngest 3 (Nancy, Julie and J.B.) in Silver Spring, Maryland.&nbsp; Jack raised his family in West Laurel, Maryland. Jack was a devoted husband and father who took his family on frequent vacations to Ocean City, Maryland, Hollywood Beach, Florida and Quebec, Canada.&nbsp; In 1967, he joined the Knights of Columbus #2809, in College Park, MD, and that decision brought him and his entire family decades of great times, fabulous memories, and the best friends on the planet. </p><p>Jack has been a member and regular attender of St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church in Laurel, MD since 1968.&nbsp; After retiring, Jack continued to enjoy trips to Canada, Ocean City, Hollywood Beach Florida, and Key West.&nbsp; </p><p>Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia Chanel, and his son J.B. Joynt III.&nbsp; Jack is survived by his wife, Mildred, his brother Joseph Joynt, his daughters, Verda Mullings (Mark), Vonda O'Malley (Kevin), Nancy Hughes (Jeff) and Julie Rothermel (Marc), and his 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.&nbsp; </p><p>Jack was a kind, loving, hardworking, fun man, with a great sense of humor. He lived his life to the fullest. He was a friend to everyone and the life of the party.&nbsp; He was the best husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, and friend you could ever ask for. &nbsp;All who knew him, loved and&nbsp;treasured him! </p><p>Jack had a very special relationship with all four of his #1 sons-in-law, and with his son J.B.’s closest friends who have always felt like family. </p><p>A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4 from 5-8 pm at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, P.A., 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029.&nbsp; A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, February 5 at 11 am at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, 114 St. Marys Pl, Laurel, MD 20707.&nbsp; A graveside service will immediately follow the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906. </p><p>A lunch reception in Jack’s honor will be held immediately after the Interment on February 5.&nbsp; Everyone is welcome. </p><p>In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, Jack would love for you to enjoy a night out with your friends and family and think of him! </p>
