<p>Obituary Harry Thomas Lint, 1939-2025</p><p><br></p><p>With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce the sudden peaceful passing of Harry Thomas Lint (Tom), Tom was a devout passionate Christian who left his earthly dwelling to be with the Lord and God he loved and served at the age of 85, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie NY. </p><p><br></p><p>Tom was born to Harry J Lint and Madeline Susman-Lint on July 4, 1939, in Vanderbilt, Pennsylvania. Tom was a loving, devoted husband to Bonnie L. Lint; he was also a proud stepfather to Donovan Jonathan and Imani Maitland. The eldest of three children Toms younger brother Bob predeceased him, and a younger sister Kathren Hetzel-Clyburn. Tom’s steadfast love and faithfulness nurtured a beautiful lifelong bond with brother’s Steve and Andrew. Tom leaves brothers-in-law, sisters-in- law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.</p><p><br></p><p></p><p>Tom lived in Collinsville Pennsylvania, graduating from Collinsville High School in 1957. Tom earned a bachelor’s degree in Theology from Bob Jones University in Greenville, NC. During his time at Bob Jones Tom questioned the philosophy that supported Jim Crow laws. His career as an ordained Minister began to speak truth to power in 1961 accepting a position with Young Life club, a program where his ministry establishes with young males in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, NY. Tom was determined to build friendship and trust as a Young Life program. Tom continued his Young Life career moving to the Hudson Valley of New York and founding hundreds of Young Life clubs which mentored thousands of teenage boys and girls in the spiritual teaching of Jesus’ love and compassion. While working with the Young Life youth program in the early 1970’s, Tom began teaching at Poughkeepsie High School. A beloved teacher known by students as Tom not Mr. Lint. Tom taught a variety of subjects but took great-pride and enjoyed teaching Black history to his students throughout the decades.</p><p><br></p><p>Compassion and opportunity Tom was instrumental in forming Harambee, Inc., a not-for-profit organization in the City of Poughkeepsie in the 1980’s. Harambee, Inc. provided educational and leadership services to the youth. Tom was a role model to thousands of children and teens in Poughkeepsie. Tom helped them to develop visions and goals for their lives and enhance their communities.</p><p><br></p><p>Tom was an avid camper and hiker. Through his membership in the Adirondack Mountain Club, Tom founded Break Free, a club that gave Poughkeepsie High School students the opportunity to explore the outdoors through hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and camping adventures in the wilderness. Tom selfishly devoted his career and retirement years to the youth of the City of Poughkeepsie.</p><p><br></p><p>Tom was ordained minister that continued to work in spiritual enrichment of adults collaborating with community charities sharing his love the Gospels. Among Tom's vast talents he immersed himself with the Civil Rights movement. Reading and teaching about the injustice of slavery but also the tremendous financial capital building uncompensated for the brutality, broken bodies, blood-soaked legacy of this country’s economic power. Toms’ passion for a cultural and un-policed diverse America kept him engaged in his life.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 2pm to 3:30pm at the Clinton Alliance Church, 1192 Centre Road, Rhinebeck, NY 12572.
