<p>Sara L. Combs, 86, of Parsons, died at 10:11 P.M., Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at her home.</p><p><br></p><p>She was born September 15, 1938 at the former Mercy Hospital in Parsons, a daughter of Tedd Alexander and Jessie Pearl (Broadstreet) Wolverton. Early in elementary school, her family moved to Kansas City, MO for a short time. They returned to Parsons where Sara finished her education, graduating from the Parsons High School in 1956. She then attended Pittsburg State Teachers College and received a Bachelor’s Degree.</p><p><br></p><p>On November 6, 1960 she was united in marriage to Donald E. Combs at the former Washington Avenue Methodist Church at Parsons. The couple lived about six months in Norfolk, VA while Don was serving in the U.S. Navy and then returned to Parsons upon his discharge. They moved to Garnett in the early 1960s where she taught at Anderson County High School. They later moved to Kansas City, KS where she taught at a school for the intellectually challenged. They returned to Parsons in 1974 and she began teaching at the Early Learning Center that was housed at Faith United Methodist Church. She later worked in the payroll at the K.L.K.C. Radio Station and did miscellaneous bookkeeping there. She later taught business classes at the Parsons High School and in later years worked at Commercial Bank.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>She was a former member of the Washington Avenue Methodist Church and became a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church when it was built after the fire. She and her husband taught adult Sunday school classes for many years at Wesley. She was also a member of Chapter BS of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. In early years she enjoyed roller skating and racing their sailboat, Sunny, with her husband. She also helped Don build a sailboat, named the Sara Lee. She taught book studies at the Parsons Public Library and enjoyed camping and fishing with her granddaughters. She was also active in Parsons Senior Center activities.</p><p><br></p><p>Survivors include: her husband – Donald “Don” E. Combs, of the home; two daughters – Sally Ann Mosier, and her companion, Tom Schibi, of Parsons, KS, Jennifer “Jenny” Sue Almond, and her husband, Mike, of Parsons, KS; seven grandchildren – Samantha Mosier, and her husband, Jarod Smith, of Basehor, KS, Jessica Blanchat, and her husband, Bryan, of Lenexa, KS, Valerie Merchant, and her husband, Taylor, of Parsons, KS, Chelsea Almond, of Iola, KS, Jacob Fereq, and his wife, Athena, of Atlanta, GA, Dorothy Wilson, and her husband, Jake, of FL, Wilson Johnson, of CA; eight great-grandchildren; one sister – Linda Long, and her husband, Richard, of Bentonville, AR. She was preceded in death by her son – Robert Tedd Combs on October 24, 2013, a son in-law - Greg Mosier on December 19, 2007 and one sister - Betty Mullen.</p><p></p><p>Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Dustin Lampe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, at a later date. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until service time Saturday.
