In 1983, he married the Love of his life, Carol and in 1984 they moved to California with Rockwell International. He worked in Payload Processing until his return to Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in September 1988. Shortly after returning to the Space Coast, Dan joined the management team at Boeing as Manager, Systems Integration and closed out his career as Site Director for Boeing Engineering at the Kennedy Space Center. He retired from the Space Program in August 2011 and was proud that he had the opportunity to work his dream job on the Shuttle Program.

After retiring, Dan had more time for the other things he loved such as fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. There were many travels following his retirement including travels here and abroad. His home on the river was his dream as he was always ready to either be fishing or spending time on the water. Fishing was a big part of his life, and early on he fished the river with his family ensuring they were all avid fishermen. He loved entertaining his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews by towing them behind the boat on the water device of choice and was referred to by many as “Captain Dan.” Dan once said that the house on the water with the boat and his family was all he could ever ask for. Many days were spent at the local islands chilling and grilling and enjoying Island Life.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Patricia and Adelbert Lacey.
