<p>Beloved father, grandfather, and longtime Swampscott resident, Huntley Smith, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2024, at the age of 88, surrounded by family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.</p><p>Born on December 1, 1935, in Lynn, MA, Huntley was the son of A. Huntley and Gertrude Smith. He grew up in Lynn before settling in Swampscott, where he became a cherished member of the community. Known for his kindness, generosity, and dry sense of humor, Huntley touched countless lives. Whether it was cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sports events, hosting family gatherings, or being an active member of the Swampscott Upper Improvement Association, Huntley was there for anyone who needed him.</p><p>After graduating from Lynn English High School, he attended Boston University and later pursued a career in engineering. He worked for General Electric and Walbar, spending much of his career as a quality aerospace engineer. Huntley was respected for his fairness, work ethic, and honesty—qualities that earned him the admiration of his colleagues.</p><p>An avid woodworker, Huntley enjoyed spending his free time in his workshop, creating treasures for his family and renovating his home. He was also passionate about studying religion and sang in the choir at The Church of the Holy Name and with The Threshold Singers.</p><p>Huntley was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Smith (Pettipas), and his daughter Luanne P. Havlicek. He is survived by his long-time companion, Dorothy “Dotty” Savio; children Laurie Smith and her wife, Mary Jane Sadler, and Jeff Smith; son-in-law Jeffrey Havlicek and his wife, Emily; grandchildren Matthew Havlicek and his wife Ellen, Anika Daff and her husband Corey, and Harris Havlicek; great-grandchildren Luke and Zoe Havlicek; and siblings Elaine Graves and her late husband Clint, Helen MacWhinnie and her husband Dick, Arlene Jewett and her husband Ed, and Ed Smith and his wife Nancy.</p><p>A celebration of Huntley's life will be held at The Church of the Holy Name, 60 Monument Ave, Swampscott, MA on Saturday, November 30, at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon.</p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Huntley’s memory to The Threshold Singers Giving - THRESHOLD SINGERS OF THE NORTH SHORE or The Church of the Holy Name 60 Monument Ave., Swampscott, MA 01907.</p><p>The family would like to thank the staff at Care Dimensions, The Residence at Vinnin Square, and Patriach Health Care for their compassionate care.</p><p>Huntley will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his dedication to his community, and his warm, generous spirit. His legacy of kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.</p><p><br></p>
