Dennis Cyrus Dideum was called home to be with the Lord on November 11, 2024, at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Beverly Denise Gothard, of Virginia Beach; two sons, Michael Aaron and Jonathan Russell, both of Virginia Beach; and daughter Rebecca Ann, of Roswell, Georgia. He is also survived by his brother, John Henry Dideum, of Burke, Virginia; and two nieces, Beth Dideum Poliquin of Charles Town, West Virginia, and Kate Lauer Heilig of Burke, Virginia.

Dennis was born to John Cyrus and Dolly Lauer Dideum in Danville, Pennsylvania on June 8, 1949. A graduate of A. D. Eisenhower High School in Norristown, Dennis attended Wheaton College in Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education. Dennis was a United States Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam Conflict from 1969 until 1975 as an Electronic Warfare Petty Officer Second Class. His tours of duty included NAVCOMMSTA Guam and the USS KITTY HAWK (CV-63). Though raised in church, it was during his time in the Navy that Dennis found the passage 1 John 5:11-12, and realized he did not have the Son of God in his life. Dennis gave his life to Christ in April of 1971, asking for salvation and for the Son of God to reside in him. While attached to the USS KITTY HAWK, Dennis’s walk with Christ led him to utilize his liberty granted in Subic Bay, Philippines, to make frequent visits to assist a Navy-supported orphanage. Similarly, while in Mombasa, Kenya, Dennis worked with local missionaries to reach outlying villages. In 1985 Dennis traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on a mission trip with his church vocal ensemble, “One Voice,” using his love of music to witness to others.

Dennis relocated to the Virginia Beach area in 1978, working at the Christian Broadcast Network as a Telephony Engineer for 31 years before becoming a Telecom Specialist with Panasonic. He met Beverly at First Baptist Church of Norfolk in 1982 and they were married in August 1984. While at First Baptist Norfolk, Dennis and Beverly taught a youth Sunday School class and were active in the choir, performing at venues such as the Dome, Pavilion, and Chrysler Hall. In 2009 Dennis relocated to St. John’s Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon. Around 2015, Dennis and his family chose to make London Bridge Baptist their church home, where Dennis enjoyed teaching, singing in the choir, helping others, and being a witness to everyone.

Dennis was a beloved husband, father, and selfless provider, always lending himself in service to others. He had a quick wit, excellent sense of humor, and a fierce competitive side that often came out in team volleyball and family board games. He will be remembered for his sweet tooth and fondness of extra dark pretzels. He loved amateur radio, listening to scanners, following preferred NASCAR drivers, being the announcer and music provider for his kids’ swim meets, and following the progress of his favorite NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

A celebration of life service will be held at London Bridge Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 20th at 2 PM. The service will be officiated by Rev. Kenny Bass and a reception will follow.
