<p>Nancy (Nausika) Booras Coin, (87) of Davenport, Iowa passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, October 3, 2024. Visitation is from 3-6pm on Sunday, October, 6th at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home with a Trisagion Service at 5:30pm. Funeral Services are at 10:00am on Monday, October 7th, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 2930 31st Ave., RI with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery. </p><p>Nausika was born November 27, 1936 in Kalamata Greece, the daughter of Angela (Demopoulos) and Pericles (Peter) Booras. Nausika immigrated to America with her family in 1946 where she began learning English and soon adopted the name Nancy. She graduated from RI High School and Augustana College with a BA degree in teaching. </p><p> After a persistent courtship culminating in a proposal on a mountaintop in Zermatt, Switzerland, she married George Harry Coin in 1959. Together they raised 4 children, moving to their cherished scenic Bettendorf home overlooking the Mississippi in 1970. A true partnership, Nancy supported George in his many endeavors including real estate and Nancy’s Pies (now Hill and Valley). Separately, Nancy spent many years as a model and successful real estate agent for Mel Foster. She attended classes at University of Iowa earning a degree in interior design, her undisputed calling. As Nancy Coin Interiors her talent was displayed in some of the most prestigious homes in the QC. Other design highlights were Augustana’s “House on the Hill” and the sanctuary at St. George Church. </p><p>In the QC community Nancy was a non-stop volunteer and leader. Over the years she was an active member in the Augustana Research Board, RI Art Guild, Tuesday Club, “Invest Hers” Investment Club, P.E.O., Crow Valley Country Club, Outing Club, Junior Board of the RI Visiting Nurses, Trustee - St. Katherine’s St. Marks (now Rivermont), City of Hope, and St. George Philoptochos Society. She served as President of the Jr. Board of Tri City Symphony (now QCSO) where she was instrumental in bringing back the “Pops” concert. She was an elected member of the Bettendorf School Board. </p><p>She enjoyed tennis, needlepoint, fishing, gardening, flower arranging, and Bridge. There was always time for one more round of Canasta. A gourmet cook especially in Greek cuisine, dinner at the Coin’s was renowned for both its menu and atmosphere. She and George traveled extensively, visiting every continent. On New Year’s Day, 2023, after almost 64 years of marriage, George passed away. His grounding presence in her life was deeply missed by all. </p><p> Nancy was a fierce family defender, cheerleader, promoter, advocate, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and wife. Her love of family and faith were paramount and came before all else. She was a force to be reckoned with. She was generous with her time, talent and treasures but suffered no fools and had high standards. Her family moniker was “Fancy Nancy”. She presented herself with style, etiquette, and elegance rarely seen today. There was no meal, event, outfit or home to which she would not add a touch of “Fancy”. Not a day will go by when she and George will not be remembered for their examples of marriage and a life well lived. </p><p> Nancy is survived by her children: Harry Georson (Susan) Coin of Bettendorf, Tina (Bubba) Cunningham of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Alexa (Scott) Florence of Bettendorf, Iowa and Jennifer Coin of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sisters Dena Manta of Bettendorf, Iowa and Georgia Sauer of Chicago, Illinois.12 grandchildren: Katherine Coin (Steve Koltz), George and Elizabeth Coin, Matthew (Erica), Michael (Emily), John (Claire) and Sarah Cunningham, Benjamin and Gabe Florence, and Nicki Zahhos, Dena (Brian) Wilkins, and Maria (Cory) Sylvester; 2 great grandsons and many beloved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband George, parents Angela and Peter Booras and brother Nickolas Booras. </p><p>Memorial donations can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, The Philoptochos (Friends of the Poor) Society of St. George Greek Orthodox Church or the Quad City Symphony.
