Jeremy Neil Carmical

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Jeremy Neil Carmical. Jeremy went to be with the Lord on September 24, 2024, at the age of 32, while diving off the coast of Destin.  Jeremy was born in Fort Walton beach, Florida on May 20, 1992 to Clay and Michelle Carmical. He had two older brothers, Derek and Shawn. He was a lifelong resident of the Florida Panhandle, but for those who knew him, he was a resident of the world. Jeremy was always on the move traveling and doing missions in locations to include Guatemala, Argentina, Peru, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Turkey, Bali, and UAE, to name just a few. In his youth, Jeremy was affectionately called “Cheeks” for his bright smile paired with his plump cheeks.  Jeremy academically excelled in school, participating in Odyssey of the Mind and in the International Baccalaureate program.  After graduating high school in 2010, Jeremy moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he attended the University of North Florida and continued his academic endeavors. During his time in Jacksonville, he created the clothing and merchandise company “Jacksonchill” to promote and spread pride for his new beach town.  After college, Jeremy worked on charter boats, continued his mission work and eventually enlisted in the United States Air Force. Fluent in Spanish and with a developed vocabulary in Arabic, Portuguese and Italian, Jeremy served as a translator on several mission trips and within the Air Force when collaborating with other units. A combat veteran, having deployed to Iraq serving as a flight paramedic with the United States Air Force Special Operations Command 27th Special Operations Group, Jeremy took a great deal of pride in his work within the Air Force and his love of his country. During his tenure with the Air Force, he was the recipient of several awards to include Aerospace Medicine Non Commissioned Officer of the year, Airman Leadership School Distinguished Graduate Award, Airmen of the Quarter (twice), and the Army Achievement Medal. Jeremy, after being honorably discharged from the USAF, continued his passion for mission work and spreading the word of Christ with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as the Emerald Coast Area Representative for International Ministries.  An avid and passionate outdoorsman, Jeremy was never far from a body of water and could frequently be found spearfishing, diving, fishing, free-diving, paddle boarding and, of course, his longest passion, surfing. Even when his military service took him to landlocked New Mexico, he immediately found his fix for adventure in hiking, rock climbing, and dirt-biking. When he wasn’t outdoors, Jeremy could be found enjoying a fresh hot cup of coffee, while reading a book or journaling about his day.   Jeremy’s most distinguished qualities were his love for Christ, infectious smile and big “JerBear” hugs. What Jeremy enjoyed most was learning about people, their stories, and how he could love them best.  Jeremy is survived by his mother, Michelle; his oldest brother, Derek, wife, Lindsey, and their children, Sterling and Luca; and his older brother, Shawn, wife, Ellie and their children, Collins and Holmes. Jeremy is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Clay Carmical. The Carmical family wants to thank all those who helped the past several days. Your support has meant the world to us and has shown us how well Jeremy was loved. There will be a celebration of life at First Baptist Church located at 126 Harbeson Avenue, Southeast in Fort Walton Beach on Saturday, October 5, 2024  at 1:00 p.m., central standard time, with a reception to follow in the Christian Life Center. All friends and family are welcome.
