<p>Michael Marvin Swanger passed away on September 12, 2024 at the age of 73 while surrounded by his family. Born on December 17, 1950, in Phenix City, Alabama, Michael's kindhearted spirit and generosity touched the lives of many throughout his years. He departed this world in Columbus, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of love, friendship, and community service. </p><p><br> Michael's early life in Phenix City set the foundation for the remarkable man he would become. His parents, Elmer Leonard and Carrie (Hobbs) Swanger, instilled in him the values of kindness and generosity. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Peggy Swanger, his parents, and seven siblings. Michael's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his sisters Joanne (Jim) Anthony, Nancy Yates, Patricia "Pat" Roth, Belinda Baxley, Pam Holland, Valarie Downard, and his brother Quinton Stephens. His extended family of numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing. </p><p><br> Michael was a man of many interests, but he was known for his love of the classic television show Gunsmoke. He worked various construction jobs throughout the Columbus area over the many years, utilizing his skills in roofing, concrete, and building. </p><p><br> Michael’s outgoing nature made him a people person; he was always ready to strike up a conversation or lend a listening ear. His neighborly demeanor and willingness to extend a helping hand were evident to all who knew him. He was the person you could count on to fix a leaky faucet or to offer assistance when you were broken down with car trouble. His ability to solve problems was matched only by his desire to provide for others, a trait that earned him the respect and admiration of his community. Although he did not have children of his own, he devoted himself to his nieces and nephews, treating them as if they were his own and ensuring their well-being. </p><p><br> The visitation for Michael Swanger will be held on Saturday, September 21st, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 PM ET at Colonial Funeral Home in Phenix City, Alabama. A Graveside service will follow on the same day at 1:00 PM ET at Parkhill Cemetery with Pastor Prathan Powell officiating, where friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate his life. </p><p><br> Michael's journey through life was marked by the joy he brought to others. His legacy is one of selflessness and warmth, a beacon for those who had the pleasure of knowing him. As we say goodbye, we reflect on the impact he made on each of us and the memories that will forever remain in our hearts. Michael Swanger will be deeply missed, but his spirit of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the honor of crossing his path. </p>
