Michael Robert Schultz

Michael “Mike” Robert Schultz, 80, of Mason, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2024. Born on March 4, 1944, in Lansing, Michigan to Virginia and Corneal Schultz.

He attended Holt High School and spent his professional years working for General Motors, where he retired after a long and successful career. Mike married the love of his life, Lynette Sue Schultz and together they shared 59 years of marriage.

An avid outdoorsman, Mike found joy in the simple pleasures of life: deer hunting, fishing, and heading north to sit quietly in the woods. For Mike, it didn’t matter if he saw a deer or caught a fish, it was just important to him to sit in nature's peaceful embrace. He had a passion for NASCAR and drag racing, a love he shared with his brother while racing at Onondaga Raceway in the 1960s and 1970s.

Mike was also a builder of worlds—both small and large. His intricate model railroad sets were a testament to his creativity and patience, a delight for his children who would sit for hours playing alongside him. He coached his children's sports teams and was an active participant in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, always ready to lend a hand and share his knowledge. His love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was boundless; nothing made him happier than seeing them enter a room. He was even working on a 3D game featuring all of them as characters, a project that showcased both his ingenuity and deep love for his family.

Mike also had a knack for building modules, remote-controlled planes, helicopters, and cars. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and cheering on the Detroit Tigers with his brother and friends.

Mike was a man of great heart, a mentor with a steady moral compass, and a steward with a compassionate soul. He had the unique ability to know when to be firm and when to be gentle, offering the right words for every situation. He was a guiding light to his family, and his legacy will be carried forward by the countless lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Mae Schultz and Corneal Robert “Bob” Schultz. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynette Sue Schultz; his children, Michell Schultz & Scott Byer, Michael & Elizabeth Schultz; grandchildren: Robert Lankton, Brandon and Leandra Schultz, Dakota Schultz, Jacob Harrison, Kate Harrison; great grandchildren: Aurora Lankton, Brayden Lankton, Kennedy Schultz, Kinsley Schultz, Samuel Harrison; his brother, Craig Schultz, and sister-in-law, Joyce Schultz, as well as his nieces and nephews.

A memorial service honoring Mike’s life will be held Friday, September 20, 2024 at 1:00 pm, located at Eden United Brethren Church, 1938 Eden Rd, Mason, MI. 48854.
