Along with his eleven siblings, his family made their home in Northwood where Richard enjoyed his time playing basketball and football. Richard graduated from Northwood High School, working on the railroad briefly before starting work at the gas station. On December 15, 1957 he married the love of his life, Marjorie “Marge” Moretz and the couple was blessed with four children: David, Cindee, Rob and Bradley. Richard spent his whole life in Northwood serving the community with his full service gas station, Low’s Standard Service. He took pride in being a staple in the community for over 57 years before his health pushed him to retire in 2013.

Richard’s life was built on hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family. For more than 50 years, he was a familiar face at Low’s Standard Service, opening the doors of his full-service gas station every morning at 7 a.m. and often staying until 9 p.m., always ready to greet a neighbor or strike up a conversation. His commitment to the community was honored when he proudly served as Grand Marshal of the 4th of July Parade in the early 2000s, a fitting recognition for his decades of service to Northwood. Though he cherished his work, his greatest joy came from time spent with his family—especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Richard was also a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings, and he never missed a Wednesday on the golf course, where he could relax and perfect his game. Known for his patience, kindness, and love for Cadillacs, Richard was a steady presence in both his family and community, leaving a lasting legacy of care and connection.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Marjorie “Marge”; children, David Low of Northwood, Cindee (Mike) Jacobs of Albert Lea, Rob (Karla) Low of Zimmerman, MN and Bradley Low of Woodbury, MN; grandchildren, Keith Stumo, Nikole Nicholson, Dylan Low, Travis Gable, Rachelle (Tad) Bennette, Jessica (Zack Gibbens) Low, Cameron Low, Tavia Low, Candice Brown, Cody Fluery and Casey Fluery; great grandchildren, Brynlee, Maia, Everett, Clara, Jameson, Louden, Eli, Wesley, Catelynn, Vivian, Gage, Drew, Abby, Nora and Lily; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Manley and Blanche; grandson, Eric Low; siblings, Clarence “Babe”, Vale, Harold “Honey”, Carroll “Mickey”, Lyle “Bub”, Col.
