<p>Akiko Uetake (Haruyama), 42, passed away peacefully on September 3rd, 2024, at 8:30 AM at Yale Smilow Cancer Hospital, where she had been surrounded by her loving family and friends.&nbsp; </p><p>Born in Nagoya, Japan, November 14, 1981, Akiko was a cherished daughter of Yoko and Eiichi Haruyama. She earned her bachelor’s degree in commerce from Hitotsubashi University and her master’s degree in economics from the University of Tokyo, reflecting her commitment to academic excellence and intellectual rigor. </p><p>In 2008, Akiko married the love of her life, Kosuke Uetake, in a beautiful ceremony in Tokyo. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy, welcoming their beloved daughter, Leah Uetake in 2021. Akiko was a Certified Public Accountant who worked at KPMG in Chicago and Stamford and is currently a financial assistant at Yale School of Medicine. Akiko was revered by her colleagues for her professionalism, integrity, and her ability to brighten any room with her radiant smile and kind, positive spirit. </p><p>A Buddhist, Akiko's faith was an important part of her life, guiding her with compassion and wisdom. She is survived by her husband Kosuke, daughter Leah, her mother Yoko, her father Eiichi and her sister Chikako, who will all miss her deeply. </p><p>Akiko's warmth, generosity, and welcoming nature will be forever remembered by all who knew her. </p><p>A visitation and funeral service will be held at Maresca &amp; Sons Funeral Home 592 Chapel St. @ Wooster Square from 12 to 3 pm on Sunday, September 8 th, followed by a gathering. </p><p>After visiting hours, there will be a gathering in East Rock from 3pm-5pm. The exact location and parking information can be found in the lobby of Maresca &amp; Sons Funeral Home. The drive will be about 5-10 minutes. Families and children are especially welcome to attend. There will be activities for children, and food and drinks will be provided for children and adults. </p><p>In keeping with Japanese customs, we kindly suggest that attendees wear conservative black or dark colored attire to honor the solemnity of the occasion. </p><p>- Men: Customary attire is a plain black suit (navy or other dark color is acceptable) with a white shirt, black tie, and black shoes. Only wedding rings please; no other jewelry. </p><p>- ⁠Women: Plain black dress with high neckline, covering the knees. Please avoid leather, patterns, lace, or shiny fabrics. Closed black shoes (leather is ok for shoes), black opaque stockings, and minimal jewelry (a plain strand of pearls and wedding rings) are recommended.&nbsp; - ⁠Children: Do not need to be extremely formal. Conservative, dark-colored clothing is preferred.&nbsp; </p><p>In lieu of flowers&nbsp; </p><p>Contributions in memory of Akiko Uetake can be made to the Director’s Fund at the Yale Cancer Center.
