<p>Mary Odessia Steele (Hammonds), age 78, born December 2, 1945, peacefully passed away on August 24, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on August 28, 2024 at Haysop Baptist Church in Eoline, AL. Tuscaloosa Memorial Park will be handling arrangements. Bro. Bonner of Haysop Baptist Church will be officiating.</p><p><br></p><p>Odessia is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ottis Hammonds (Pate); her father, Cecil Hammonds; her son, Cliff McIntosh; her brother, Wilson Hammonds; and her late husband, Bobby Steele. Surviving family members include her daughter Diane Henderson (Tony), granddaughter, Allison Henderson Mello (Forest), grandson, Matthew Henderson; great-grandchildren, Connor Mello and Payson Mello; sister, Kathy Johnson Sellers (Garland); brothers, Wayne Hammonds (Charlene) and Larry Hammonds (Judy) and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.</p><p><br></p><p>In her healthier years, Odessia was a hard working mother and wife. Her longest career path was managing many Burger King restaurants over a span of 20 years. She enjoyed cooking, attending church and serving others. As she got older, she would spend weekends enjoying her grandchildren’s company, watching Alabama Football and traveling to the Great Smoky Mountains. After her health took a toll on her, she enjoyed the more simple things in life. She loved the Lord and lived for Him. She loved watching Andy Griffith or The Walton’s. Any moment spent with family brought her pure joy.</p><p><br></p><p>Odessia will be greatly missed by all who love her. We have peace and comfort knowing she is rejoicing in Heaven with her Savior Jesus Christ.</p><p><br></p><p>Pallbearers will be Matthew Henderson, Larry Hammonds, Forest Mello, Michael Johnson, Steve Johnson (Bubba), Noah Hammonds and Dalton Bailey.
