<p>SALEM - Shirley A. Martz, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in North Lima, at the age of 81. Born on February 5, 1943, in Salem, daughter of the late Thomas and Grace (Sneddon) Howells. Shirley's life was marked by her dedication to her family, her career, and her community. </p><p>She was a proud graduate of Greenford High School's class of 1961. During her high school years, she obtained her beautician license, showcasing her early talent and entrepreneurial spirit. After graduation, she embarked on a career in banking, serving the community at Farmers National Bank in Salem and later at Mahoning National Bank in North Lima. Her career spanned 16 years, during which she also furthered her education by attending accounting classes at Youngstown State University. </p><p>Shirley's professional journey took an exciting turn when she and her beloved husband, Clyde, moved to Hagerstown, Maryland. There, she became the co-owner of Pro Sports Shop, a sporting goods store that thrived under her co-leadership. Upon returning to Salem, Shirley continued to excel in her field, dedicating her skills to accounting roles at BisNuss Inc. in Canfield and Panelmatic Inc. in Youngstown until her retirement in 2005. </p><p>She leaves behind the love of her life, her devoted husband, Clyde, whom she married August 3, 1963 at the Washingtonville United Methodist Church; their union was blessed with two children, Gregory (Susan) Martz of Burns, Tennessee, and Mindy (Noel) Harris of Grafton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Andrew Martz of Saline, Michigan, Camryn Martz of Evansville, Indiana, Ciara Harris of Elyria, and Nick Harris of Pensacola, Florida, were the light of her life; her sister-in-law, Thelma Wise, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her life was enriched by the relationships she nurtured, and she will be remembered for her unwavering support and pride in her family's achievements. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and the families they were building. Shirley's legacy is one of love, dedication, and service. </p><p>A faithful member of the Greenford Lutheran Church, Shirley served as church treasurer for many years, contributing her time and talents to the congregation she loved. Her interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. An avid knitter, Shirley's completed projects were treasured gifts to family and friends. Her quilts were not only beautiful but also a testament to her meticulous craftsmanship and artistic vision. </p><p>Shirley and Clyde shared a passion for travel, exploring the country in their RV camper and enjoying winters in Florida. In 2007, they embraced the opportunity to manage the campgrounds at the Canfield Fair, which allowed Shirley to indulge in her love of camping and fostered countless new friendships. </p><p>Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law Wanda and James Dickson, her sister and brother-in-law Edna and Roger Ziegler, and her brother-in-law Harry Clay. Her memory will be cherished, and her presence deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. </p><p>Calling hours will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Greenford Lutheran Church, 7450 West South Range Road, Salem, OH 44460 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Josh Ruiter officiating. </p><p>Memorial donations may be made to Greenford Lutheran Church, P.O.
