<p>Richard “Rick” Smelzer, age 68 of Highland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. Rick was born on July 12, 1956, to Lauren and Ione (Yanna) Smelzer, the first born of the family. He graduated from Highland High School in 1974.</p><p><br></p><p>He married Judy Nondorf on July 17, 1976, at St. Anthony’s in Highland. Together they raised two boys: Jeremy and Josh. Rick spent time with his boys showing them how to hunt, fish, and play ball. Rick and Judy spent their lives together: going on minor and major trips and vacations, spending time with family and friends, and just being the support the other needed.</p><p><br></p><p>Rick was an avid Packer and Badger fan. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He treated everyone he ever met as a friend, taking time to learn things about everyone he talked to, making them feel seen and heard.</p><p><br></p><p>Rick was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Lynn.</p><p><br></p><p>Rick is survived by his wife, Judy; his sons: Jeremy (Shavonna) and Josh (Christi); his grandchildren: Chase, Dax, Morgan, Jackson, Margo, Hannah, Cali; his sister, Kim Mensch; his brother, Jim (Lisa); and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, other family and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 26, 2024, at Ss. Anthony &amp; Philip Catholic Church, Highland. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 am until the time of service. The McGuire-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Highland, is assisting the family.
