This is the obituary of Marilyn Jane Maag, age 67, who died in Cincinnati, Ohio on August 16th, 2024 of metastatic breast cancer:

***

I was hoping to live to age 100, but did not come close. Nonetheless, I am deeply grateful for my life. I am the oldest daughter of Lawrence and Evelyn Maag, both of whom survive me and have been with me every step of the way. My four sisters, Theresa Aldrich, Kathi Lang, Barbara Slattery, and Laurie Horman, have been wonderful and loyal friends throughout my life. My brothers-in-law, Doug Lang, Kevin Slattery, and Don Aldrich, are like brothers to me and I love each of them. I grew up in Fairfield, Ohio, attended Badin High School in Hamilton, Ohio, and then graduated from the University of Cincinnati (B.S magna cum laude 1979; J.D. 1986). I worked for over 30 years as an estate and trust lawyer in the Cincinnati and Dayton communities. I recall, with gratitude, the trust of my clients and the respect of my peers. I enjoyed photography, beginning when I was a child, and ended up documenting my life, and the lives of those around me, in photographs. I enjoyed music and art, reading, cooking, gardening, running, hiking, exploring the natural world, volunteering in my community, and traveling to experience fascinating places and different cultures.

I loved many people during my lifetime, and have been loved in return. My former husband, Tony Barlow, and I are blessed with two children, Evan Barlow and Sierra Barlow. The strong connection between my children and me, and our love for each other, have helped me to thrive. They are young adults now, and I am grateful I had the chance to share in their lives to this point. I am also close to my stepdaughter, Alexandra Barlow Frost, her husband Justin Frost, and their children, and am grateful for our continuing friendship. Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by family members, including nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as caring and fun friends, who have brought me so much joy!

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, which kept reappearing and spreading until it ultimately took my life. My heart goes out to all women and girls – may we one day be free of this disease.

***

If you would like to make a gift in memory of Marilyn Maag, please consider:

Santa Maria Community Services Donate | Santa Maria Community Services (santamaria-cincy.org)

617 Steiner Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45204

The Ohio Innocence Project, University of Cincinnati College of Law Donate - Foundation - University of Cincinnati - https://foundation.uc.edu/donate?id=a250fca7-9026-40aa-ad08-210a689f27d4&_gl=1*ikdbs9*_gcl_au*MjAyNzg4OTM1Mi4xNzIzMTIzNzAx*_ga*MTMwNTU2Mzc2NC4xNjk4ODQzNzIx*_ga_7H1FCKXZ4Y*MTcyNDY4NTIwNi4xNDIuMS4xNzI0Njk3MDczLjYwLjAuMA..*_ga_LSJTQ7TZ38*MTcyNDY4NTIwNi4zMy4xLjE3MjQ2OTcwNzMuMC4wLjA.*_ga_CWY9357HWN*MTcyNDY4NTIwNi4xOS4xLjE3MjQ2OTcwNzMuMC4wLjA

2925 Campus Green Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45221

Cancer Family Care Inc. Support Us - Cancer Family Care

4790 Red Bank Expy #128, Cincinnati, Ohio 45227.

***

Visitation with Marilyn’s family:

Wednesday, August 28th at 4pm-6pm.

Spring Grove Funeral Home, 4389 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45223

*Parking: Please note that this will be held at the Funeral Home, not the main cemetery entrance.
