<p>Barbara Jean (Ward) Austin of Wilburton, Oklahoma passed away June 7, 2024, in Georgetown, Texas at the age of 97.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the Jones Harkins Funeral Home.</p><p><br></p><p>A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wilburton, Oklahoma with Mr. Leland Walker officiating. The burial will follow.</p><p><br></p><p>Pallbearers will be Larry Hix, Jeremy Hernandez, Jackson Hernandez, Jason Lowrance, Damion Smith, Taylor Smith, Kerry White, and Blake White.</p><p><br></p><p>Barbara was born September 5, 1926 to James Hollie and Julia (French) Ward in LeFlore, Oklahoma. She was one of four children, and she was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; brother, James; sisters: Dora and Margaret; adopted brother, Roy Walters; and a daughter, Brenda Hix.</p><p><br></p><p>Barbara married Wayne Lloyd Austin of Panola, Oklahoma December 18, 1947 in Red Oak, Oklahoma. Prior to their return to southeast Oklahoma, Barbara was a dedicated and devoted military wife, following Wayne through many adventurous moves across the United States.</p><p><br></p><p>Barbara worked at Eastern Oklahoma State College for many years, retiring in 1986. Barbara loved spending time with Wayne as his "co-pilot in life," treasuring their time in the “Little House on the Prairie.” She was a gifted seamstress, voracious basketball fan, and masterful chef, known for her homemade pies. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Christ, always displaying a servant’s heart. Barbara’s most treasured memories were those made with her family and friends. She was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all.</p><p><br></p><p>Barbara is survived by daughter, Wynema Austin of Norman, Oklahoma; son-in -law Larry Hix of Georgetown, Texas; granddaughters: Staci Hix-Hernandez and husband Jeremy of Georgetown, Texas, and Amberly Hix-Lowrance and husband Jason of Lubbock, Texas; grandsons: Damion Smith, and Taylor Smith and wife Nicole all of Norman, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren: Jackson Wayne Hernandez, and Cutter Wade Hernandez of Georgetown, Texas, Isaac Austin Smith of Norman, Oklahoma, and Brooke Marion Lowrance, Wylder Kai Lowrance and Jamisyn Ranae Lowrance all of Lubbock, Texas.</p><p><br></p><p>Barbara made a tremendous impact on everyone, instilling love, strength, resilience and dedication by example. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
