Norman Lionel Jeffers

Norman Lionel Jeffers (lovingly known as “Bobby or Uncle Bobby”) was born August 11, 1934, in Brooklyn NY to Lionel Jeffers (D) and Leonora Jones Jeffers (D). He was the baby brother to
5 brothers and sisters. Edwin (Sonny) Jeffers (D), Viola Trott (D), Ivan (Buster) Jeffers(D), Irene Jeffers Ramos, Wilfred Jeffers (D), and Vivian Owens-Trott.

Being the baby of a Caribbean family, whose accents were very strong, Aunt Vivian would call him “The Bobby”. “The Bobby is in my bed!” When at 2 years old her baby brother was now in her crib. The name stuck and the rest of the family followed suit and that’s how he was called Uncle Bobby or Bobby from then on. When Bobby was 15 years old he decided to join the service. He snuck out one day, lied about his age, and joined the Army. When his mother found out what he did, she had him pulled out and returned home. Determined to join the military, 2 yrs later at 17 he left high school and joined the National Guard. While in the National Guard, Bobby reconnected with a former schoolmate Adele Rawlins, and in 1962, they married.

Bobby had numerous jobs after the military, but he worked for Hertz trucking company, retired in 1996, and moved to Southern Pines, NC. He continued to do small jobs around town at Lowes, a local mechanic shop, and with a local thrift shop, he enjoyed working with his hands. Bobby had many hobbies. Photography, he was the family photographer, he would carry his cameras to every family function, woodworking, and being in a local bass fishing club.

Bobby is survived by his 4 children. Scott Lionel Jeffers (Kimberly), and Stephanie Jeffers Clark (Dwayne) both of Brooklyn, NY, Shelby Dobson (Michael) of Charlotte, NC, and Ericka Floyd of Greenville, SC. Bobby was grandfather to 9 Grandchildren, Shayna, Scott Jr., Shanye, Jamal, Sierra, Chandler, Alexis, Jordan, and Simeon. He is also the great-grandfather of 2 Theia and Selene. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

God needed some work done up in heaven. He needed a man who really knew his trade, so he reached down to earth for his beautiful Norman, a man he knew was always there to aid.

He knew that Norman was a man who loved his family and gave his heart and soul to all. A spirit to the light that he gave to others, a man he knew would be there when he's called.

His memory is forever in our hearts; his legacy of a life that was so fulfilling is the beautiful thing that sets his love apart.

So, for our dear Norman, we will shed a tear, but joy will fill our hearts with glee because God will bring his Norman home and rest his love upon his heavenly knee.

The family thanks you for all the love,
calls, support, and acknowledgments
during our time of bereavement.
