<p>With deep sorrow, the family announces the passing of William John Campbell, III, who died after a brief illness at the age of 66, in Santa Rosa, California. His devoted wife of 33 years, Janet A. Campbell, was by his side.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill was born on October 4, 1957, in San Francisco, California, to William J. Campbell Jr, and Marlene M. Campbell (nee Sampson). He was the eldest of four siblings and spent his formative years in Santa Rosa, California, where he attended local schools and graduated from Piner High School in 1975.</p><p><br></p><p>An IBEW Local 551 electrician, Bill embarked on his professional journey at a young age, showcasing remarkable skill and dedication. Alongside his career and in his younger years, he was an accomplished barefoot water skier, gliding effortlessly across the water's surface. Additionally, Bill harbored a deep fascination for airplanes and vintage cars, finding joy in their intricate designs and historical significance.</p><p><br></p><p>An avid enthusiast of aviation, Bill dedicated his time to volunteering at the PCAM Air Show and the Reno Air Races annually. This shared passion became a cherished tradition, as he eagerly brought his sons along to partake in the excitement of the events.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill took immense pride in the achievements of his sons, William J. Campbell, IV, Andrew J. Campbell, and Christopher M. Campbell, both academically and in their military service. He was particularly overjoyed to welcome his grandson, William J. Campbell, V, into the Campbell family fold.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill and his wife enjoyed traveling and recently returned from a three-week excursion to Southeast Asia. In one of their final discussions, Bill expressed that this trip, along with their visit to Disneyland shortly after their marriage, were the highlights of his life.</p><p><br></p><p>Bill is preceded in death by his grandfathers, William J. Campbell and Gilbert U. Sampson; his grandmothers, Dina Campbell (aka Granny Goose) and Elsie I. Sampson; his father, William J. Campbell, Jr; his aunt, Helen Campbell Devine; his uncle, Mervyn R. Sampson; his aunt, Anna Sampson, his uncle, Gary Gravel, his uncle Frank Benaderet, his aunt Helen Benaderet and his daughter-in-law, Chelsea A. Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Janet A. Campbell; his sons, William J. Campbell, IV, and his wife Kathryn, Andrew J. Campbell, and Christopher M. Campbell; his grandson, William J. Campbell, V; his mother, Marlene M. Campbell; his sisters, Janet St. Peter, and her husband Shawn, and Kimberly May; his brother, Randy A. Campbell; his aunt, Sandra Gravel; his Uncle Gilbert A. Sampson (aka Gibby), and his wife, Donna; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.</p><p><br></p><p>The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the 911 Operator, the Santa Rosa Fire Department Station 3, Kaiser Permanente, and the Sonoma County Coroner for their compassionate care and support during this challenging time.</p><p>A mass will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Resurrection Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, with a celebration of life following the service.
