<p>Lewiston – Claire B. Mathewson, 94 of Auburn, formerly of Hinsdale, NH., passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at Marshwood Center in Lewiston with her family by her side. She was born August 5, 1928, in East Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of Herman and Charlotte (Jackel) Gabrielsen. She attended school in Rhode Island. On July 9, 1949, in Coventry, RI, she married Bernard A. Mathewson, Sr. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage before his passing on October 7, 2012. She and her husband were members of the Green Mountain Chapel in Brattleboro, Vermont. Claire loved playing piano and singing and was a talented seamstress. She will be remembered as very devoted to her family. She is survived by her son, John Mathewson and wife Marjorie of Florida, her daughters, Sue Roebuck and husband Jay of Turner, and Janice Rosewarne and husband Jeffrey of Pennsylvania, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sister, Linda Grabbert and husband Joe of Rhode Island and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, son, Bernard Mathewson, Jr., sister, Elizabeth Spencer, and brother Bernard Gabrielsen.
