<p>Gilda Cortese</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Gilda Cortese, 94, of Rome passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on December 18, 1920 in Rome, NY, daughter of the late John and Theresa Stumpo Garofalo. Gilda was educated in Rome Schools. She was an employee of General Cable and Rome Manufacturing. She retired from Rome Memorial Hospital. Gilda was formally married to Roy Cortese, who passed away on November 11, 2007. Gilda will always be remembered for her great cooking, baking and thoughtfulness. </p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Surviving are her beloved children; a daughter, Deborah Scheible and companion Bruce Edick, a son, Nicholas Cortese all of Rome, a granddaughter, Erica Daniels and husband Eric, Rome, a grandson, Scott Scheible and wife Anita, Pittsburgh, PA, great grandchildren, Elena and Evan Daniels, Rome, several nieces and nephews and former son-in-law Howard Scheible. Gilda was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law Joseph and Amelia Garofalo, Angelo "Benny" and Caroline Garofalo, John and Angeline Garofalo and a sister and brother-in-law Ida and Mike Joseph.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>Gilda's family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Colonial Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Rome, for their excellent care and compassion extended to Gilda during her stay. </p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p>A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church where relatives and friends are invited to attend with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the Mass. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 210 E. Dominick St. Rome, NY 13440. </p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p> Arrangements are by the Nicholas J.
