Joseph P. Andrychowski, 78, of Enfield, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at home on Friday, August 5, 2022. He was born on November 25, 1943 in Willimantic, to the late Joseph J. and Sophia (Syzdek) Andrychowski. He graduated from Springfield College in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and went on to teach for 35 years in the Enfield Public School system. <br><br>Fondly known as “Coach Andy”, Joseph was a force to be reckoned with. He stressed hard work, dedication and perseverance were the road to success. In the beginning of his coaching journey, he was instrumental in developing a premier wrestling program at JFK Middle School. His coaching career stretched more than a decade and in 2014 he was inducted into the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame.<br><br>During his life, Joseph was an avid golfer and bowler but loved all sports, especially the New York Yankees. He enjoyed playing pinochle with his friends, trips to Tractor Supply and special date night trips to Dairy Queen with his wife in his 1970 Chevelle SS. He spent the majority of his retirement on his favorite tractor mowing the fields of the Andrychowski Homestead. <br><br>He is survived by his wife of 44 years Debra (Schrumpf) Andrychowski, a son, Major Nicholas Andrychowski and his wife Maisha, a daughter, Vanessa Arkoette and her husband Jeffrey, a sister, Marjorie Andrychowski, a Mother-in-law, Esther Schrumpf, "grandfur-kids", Charlie, Chloe and Luna and many, many cousins. He also leaves behind numerous students, football players and wrestlers whom he had the pleasure and honor of teaching and coaching.<br><br>The family wishes to send a special thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Francis, Smilow Cancer Hospital, JGS Lifecare and VITAS Healthcare for all their care and compassion.<br><br>Calling hours will be held at 3-6 PM on Friday, August 12, at Leete-Stevens Family Funeral Home, 61 South Rd Enfield, CT 06082.<br><br>Memorial donations in Joseph's name can be made to St. Jude, Connecticut Children's Hospital or Smilow Cancer Hospital.<br>For online condolences, please visit www.leetestevens.com.
