Robert Wagner

On Monday, June 21, 2021, Robert “Bob” Wagner went to his farm in Heaven after an 8 month ferocious battle with cancer. Born in Trenton, NJ, Bob was raised and died on Crusher Road in Hopewell, NJ, with immeasurable success within his 78 years. Growing up, Bob helped run his father George’s farm. He hauled milk with his dad for Durling Farms, out of Whitehouse, NJ until his father passed away in 1971. He continued his father’s business until 1974, when he created R. Wagner and Sons Trucking and Excavating. For many years, he worked alongside his sons installing septic systems, hauling topsoil, excavating and being known as the guy people count on to get the job done with zero error. Over the years Bob was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with close friends and family. He went on many hunting adventures to Arizona, Idaho, Canada, Colorado, South Dakota, and Pennsylvania. His close hunting buddies have shared many memorable Bob Wagner stories, which we hope stay with them for a lifetime. In 1989, Bob bought a large farm in Monroe, Virginia where he found a great amount of tranquility over the years. He enjoyed farming his land on his John Deere, fishing in his ponds, collecting antique tractors, cars, and trucks, and spending time with his friends in Virginia, who became his family. Many things can be said about Bob. He was a strong force for those who knew him. The family has received many messages the last few days which describe Bob as honest, hard working, dependable, loyal, and larger than life. He was known as the “silver fox” amongst his poker friends, who remember him as fun loving and enjoyed friendly banter. Setting all of his business accomplishments aside, Bob was most proud of his family. Whenever asked, Bob beamed with pride about his family. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Wagner of Hopewell, NJ. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann. He has five children: Todd, Travis, Sage, Slade, and Lisa (Nemec) and their spouses: Kathleen, Sara, Vanessa, and Jason Nemec. He is the proud grandfather of fourteen grandchildren: Jenna, Shannon, Scott, Alicia, Brandon, Sabrina, Garret, Sawyer, Leo, Ashley, Maddie, Hanna, Colton, and Knox, five great-grandchildren: Autumn, Hunter, Serena, Everly and Christopher and his sister Mary Mathisen of Amhert, Virginia. He leaves behind his close childhood friends who are like family, and many cousins; including Paul Wagner of Flemington who he viewed as his brother. Bob leaves behind an incredible legacy. He lived each and every single day with the attitude of work hard, be honest, be loyal, and you will be rewarded in the end. He spent the last days of his life with his family and friends by his side, and he was certain he was going to a far better place with no pain. We are certain he has joined friends and family that were waiting for him, and he is already settled into a John Deere taking care of business. We would like to especially thank Dr. Blankstein and his team at Hunterdon Medical Center, who never stopped believing in him, and Shelly in the Hunterdon Medical Cafe, who made sure she always sent up extra brownies for him. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the FFA (Future Farmers of America): https://www.ffa.org/ways-to-give/ The family is gathering at Wilson-Apple Funeral Home in Pennington, NJ on Monday, June 28, 2021 from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm. Mass will be at St. Alphonsus Church on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 11:00 am.
