Paul Hurst

The family of Paul Herrington Hurst is devastated to announce his passing on Friday June 18th. Our world is now an emptier place. Those who knew Paul, know what a friendly, kind and compassionate man we have lost. Paul leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 48 years Donna. He will be forever missed by his children Shelley (Glenn) Hyland and Andrew (Katy) Hurst. Popa meant the world to his five grandchildren Zach, Tate, Tanner, Ellie and Sam. Paul is survived by his sister Carol (Tom) Warner, sister in-law Kip Fulford and brother in-law Deb Shewfelt. Paul is predeceased by his parents Don and Helen Hurst, his brother in-law Ted Fulford and sister in-law Barb Shewfelt. Paul loved Collingwood and was proud to call it home. He worked for the town for 35 years, starting as the deputy clerk and ending as a fire captain with the Collingwood Fire Department. So many will remember his bright smile and generosity throughout the many hours he spent volunteering on the Anglican Church Advisory and Cemetery Boards, with the Collingwood Agricultural Society, at the Collingwood Ski Club, on the Canadian Ski Patrol and at the Collingwood Curling Club. Paul was pleased to be recognized for his hard work by first receiving a national award with the Canadian Ski Patrol then later in life he received the Order of Collingwood followed by the Companion to the Order of Collingwood. For those of you who knew Paul, you knew of his passion for curling. Paul was very involved at the Collingwood Curling Club in many roles. His accomplishments include skipping his team through four games in one day, to win the GBSSA boys championship, three eight-ender games, multiple trophies and he started the popular jitney program. Paul made many friends through his involvement in golf, fishing and the British Car Club. Paul was so proud of his family, loved to tell stories about them, loved to help with their projects and give his advice. He always enjoyed the many gatherings at his cottage with both his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him. If desired a donation may be made in Paul’s memory to Hospice Georgian Triangle - Campbell House. Due to covid restrictions Paul's service will be by invitation only at All Saints Anglican Cemetery on Friday June 25th at 1 p.m. which will be available through livestream.
