Timothy A McGrath Jr.

Timothy Aloysius McGrath, Jr. was born on June 7, 1943 to Timothy Aloysius McGrath Sr. and Irene McGrath (Nichols) in Bronx, NY. He moved to Queens and lived in a house that his father built by hand and still stands today. On May 7, 1964 he married Mary Saturno also of Queens and they raised two daughters, Marie and Traci, and a son Tim on Long Island in New York. Our father was the definition of loyalty. We loved him as poppy. He was a private man, and his priorities were family, imparting the McGrath code in his kids and lastly, food. Nothing made Poppy happier than to share a meal with his family. He enjoyed bringing us to tears in laughter telling stories at dinner about things we did as kids, some of which we might have liked to have forgotten. In the end, Poppy waited until his three children were together and made a decision he knew we did not want to make. We are eternally blessed, Poppy. Poppy adored his grandchildren and, in the end lived with them and for them. He was fortunate to spend the last years of his life living with Traci, Dave and her two girls. Nothing made him prouder than watching Dylan pitch a baseball game, Emily making him laugh with her “Irish wit”, instilling the McGrath code to his only name sake, TJ, watching Hayley play soccer and fetching the TV remote for him, and finally Lexi who he cherished and loved to watch Traci get what she gave when she was younger. Tim was preceded in death by his wife, to whom he was truly devoted, Mary, his granddaughter, Brooklyn, his father, Timothy, mother, Irene, and two of his brothers Douglas and Thomas. He is survived by five siblings Donald, Audrey, Arlene, Adrienne, and Andrea. His legacy lives on through his three children and their spouses Marie McGrath and Gary Morrissey of Austin, TX, Traci McGrath and David Dunn of Belle Mead, NJ and Timothy and Lindsay McGrath of Mebane, NC and ultimately his grandchildren, Dylan Morrissey, Emily Morrissey, Timothy McGrath, Hayley Dunn and Alexis Dunn. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please send a donation to the Sids foundation in Poppy’s honor at https://www.sids.org/. In the words of the secret language he shared with his brother , Deeski Mreeski. throughout his life time a special message from Don: “Dear breeday, on yer jeernee please b geüt, nkay? Wen ügit to de geets make sur u c the lade, Timin, en kaseney u were nuetso guet nkay, be keerful. I mis’ u. Guet luk.
