Ruby Nell Sigmon Spencer, 90, from her own home in Hickory, went running into the arms of Jesus on the Eve of Epiphany, January 6th, 2021.
Everyone knew Ruby as an active and loving servant who helped anyone who crossed her path. She showed her thanksgiving to Jesus through her words of encouragement and acts of service and charity. Ruby started serving early in life by giving up her education to care for her mother. She had a short, but meaningful career working a switchboard and touching lives. She married her love and with him raised four children, loving them and teaching them the living Word of God. She nurtured them and everyone in her life until her last day on Earth. Living for Christ was her purpose and she embodies the spirit of Hebrews 11:“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Ruby knew where she was going. She’s there now with her parents, Ernest and Ila Lail Sigmon, and husband, Worth Spencer, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Lennie Spencer and wife Robin of Sneads Ferry, NC, Bradley Spencer and wife Lisa of Victorville, CA, Lori Huffman and husband Stephen of Beavercreek, OH, and Julie Heideman and husband Alan of Fishers, IN; her grandchildren, Casey Spencer and wife Kelly, Courtney Spencer and fiancé Adrian Hamilton; Megan and Katherine Spencer; Nikki, Alex, Andy, Maddie, and Sarah Huffman; Joshua and Aaron Heideman: and great grandchildren, Garrett and Jameson Spencer; and Lily, Savannah, and Christian Benedetti.
Ruby will lie in state from 10:00am until 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Cemetery with the Rev. David Ziehr officiating.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church or Samaritan's Purse.
