Robert “Bob” James Waitkus, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away suddenly at the age of 59 on Wednesday, November 18th, 2020. Bob was born on July 29th, 1961 in Brockton, Massachusetts to the late Donald Cahill and the late Jeanette Waitkus. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois before relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio and studying business at the University of Cincinnati. Bob’s first real employment was with United Parcel Service to which he remained a dedicated employee and notable leader for 41 years until his passing. Bob was the proud and loving father to Sarah Marie Waitkus and Jillian Katherine Waitkus. He was also a devoted and inspiring brother to Michael and spouse Judy Waitkus of Colleyville, Texas and step-brother to Joanne Wagner of Cookeville, Tennessee, Jack and spouse Debbie Waitkus of Phoenix, Arizona and Sylvia Waitkus of Independence, Kentucky. Bob had a unique wisdom and was a mentor to many. He was extremely thoughtful and cared greatly about his colleagues, employees and friends. Bob enjoyed chasing trains, was an avid horse racing fan and had an affinity for bourbon and sweets. He spent his free time relaxing at the beach, exploring local antique shops and attending sporting events with his girls. He had a sharp wit as well as a remarkable sense of humor and found much joy in his ability to effortlessly make people laugh. He approached life with a grateful heart and a positive attitude that was contagious to everyone who knew him. Bob touched numerous lives during his time on Earth and will be deeply missed. The Waitkus family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Baz, Dr. Keshavamurthy and the Transplant Team at University of Kentucky Healthcare for their exceptional care, effort and support with Bob’s double lung transplant and recovery. While flowers are welcome, the family also asks that contributions be made in Bob’s name to Donate Life Kentucky (https://donatelifeky.org) and encourages family and friends to register to become an organ and tissue donor in his memory. A private service will be held at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, East Louisville. A larger celebration of life will take place on a future date.
