Verona - Clayton Joseph Wright (formally Walker), age 26, of Verona passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020. He was born on Oct. 18, 1994, in Madison, Wis., the son of Cara (Wright) Hanson and Gregory Hanson. Clayton graduated from Verona High School in 2013.
Clay worked as a framer for AMCS Incorporated and had previously worked for Edge Construction and Carrington Landscape. He took great pride in this work and enjoyed demonstrating his strength on the job site. Coworkers would call him ‘horse’ as a testament to that strength. Clay would say physical strength is only in the mind! Growing up his love for athletics showed his dedication and passion. He excelled most in hockey and lacrosse. His love for sports carried on as he became an avid fan of The Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. Clay was a man who would help anyone from a ride home to loading trucks or opening a door - his kindness was limitless. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved the outdoors; especially sitting around the campfire with family and friends while enjoying a good Busch Light. Clay got the biggest enjoyment in making people laugh. In his humor, he would create special nicknames for the family and friends he loved dearly. He had a smile that would light up any room with a laugh that was contagious to all. Family was important to Clay and he enjoyed spending time with his bothers, Luke and Gavin. He had a deep love and respect for his father, Greg, and was proud of Greg’s work as a police officer. Clay had a bond with his mother that was irreplaceable. Clay would say his mother was “an angel and the backbone to who he was; his number one girl.” His grandma, ‘G’ as he called her, “was the most beautiful woman he knew.” Two of the strongest people he loved and adored were his ‘Mama’ and his ‘G’.
Clayton is survived by two brothers, Luke Hanson and Gavin Hanson; maternal grandmother, Dena (Mark) Miller; maternal grandfather, Roger (Mary) Wright; paternal grandparents, Bonnie and Terry Hanson; and many other extended family. He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents Leo and Betty Kline; and maternal great-aunt, Sally Nagel.
Due to Covid, a celebration of life, in true Clay fashion, is being planned for the summer of 2021.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family for a future Clay Walker memorial fund to support Verona lacrosse players in financial need. Donations and cards can be sent to Greg or Cara Hanson, P.O. Box 202, Cross Plains, WI 53528.
