U.B. Deyton, age 82, of Burnsville, passed away on Tuesday, November 17th, 2020 at Care Partners Solace Center. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Uranous Deyton, Sr. and Annie Renfro Deyton . He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Young Deyton and three sisters: Thelma Hill, Edna Freeman and Edith Moore. He was a lifelong member and Elder of Green Mountain Presbyterian Church. U.B. was former County Chairman of the Yancey County Democratic Party, beloved teacher, coach, friend and mentor to many in Yancey County. He was a bigger man in spirit than his body. Surviving are his loving children: Chris Deyton and Rick Marvil of Leicester, Shelly Bailey and husband, Sandy, of Green Mountain and Rodney Deyton and wife, Ronda, of Burnsville; grandchildren: Alex, Tessa, Reed, Drew, CJ, Jordan, Jessi, Jamson and Jordan; great-grandchildren: Jensen, Lilly and Rosey and brothers: Russell Deyton of Dalton, GA and Richard Deyton and wife, Elizabeth, of Burlington. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his beloved little dog, Molly, also survive. A celebration of his life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 20th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Derrick Whitson and Rev. Philip Garland will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday in the Peterson-McCourry Cemetery. Due to Covid (All services will be PRIVATE) Memorial donations may be made to Yancey County Feed A Child at 151 Laurel Heights Drive, Burnsville, NC 28714.
