Roberta Lind Brunsell, age 61, of Stoughton, WI, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020.
She was born on March 3, 1959 in Madison General (now Meriter) Hospital, the second daughter of Robert F. and Joann C. (Justin) Brunsell. She grew up in Evansville, graduating from Evansville High School in 1977. She won music awards and played trombone in the Evansville High School Jazz Band. The band was renowned for its innovation at the time and celebrated by the community.
Roberta attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA and Blackhawk Technical Institute in Janesville, WI. During the summers she was employed at Brunsell Company in Evansville. She worked part-time as a temporary services worker in Madison and then had full-time employment at Cuna Mutual Group in Madison where she was recognized as employee of the month.
Roberta had a very sweet, kind soul with an impish and mischievous spirit. She loved animals; especially cats. She was a budding artist with her drawing and painting, and enjoyed puzzle books and silly jokes. Her fondest memories were summers with her cousins “up north” on Lost Lake and Found Lake, fishing for elusive muskies, and boating in the most beautiful area of Wisconsin. Fish for breakfast was a daily occurrence; usually bluegills and perch were on the menu.
She lived in her home on Church Street in Evansville until 2008 when she moved to Stoughton, where she enjoyed the Norwegian heritage of the city.
She is survived by her mother Joann Brunsell of Stoughton, sisters Kay (Richard) Kruse of St. Paul, MN and Carol (Robert) Schaffner of Kenosha, WI, and nephews Peter Kruse and Drew Schaffner. She is also survived by beloved cousins on both sides of the family.
Roberta was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father in 2015, favorite aunts and uncles, and best friend brother Blair David Brunsell in 1968. They were 1 ½ years apart and she died on what would have been his 60th birthday. We know he was waiting to welcome her home.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, private graveside services will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery in Evansville. Ward Hurtley Funeral Home is assisting the family. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate and attentive staff at UW Health University Hospital in Madison.
