Helene Chaveriat Nickles

Helene went to grammar school at St. James Lutheran Grade School. She attended Luther North High School where she enjoyed and excelled doing gymnastics. She started her college years at Amundsen Junior college where she met the love of her life Nick Nickles and ended with a teaching degree from Bradley University. She was a teacher in Algonquin, Illinois where she coached volleyball and enjoyed her teaching years. Helene loved to write poetry and hymns and had several of her poems published. She had a way with making words shine and blossom on paper. When in junior college, she met, fell in love and married a man named Nick Nickles. They were married and started a family in Chicago, Illinois. They went on to have a loving, caring, and blessed filled marriage where they had four very lucky children. After almost 20 years of marriage, Helene lost the love of her life on June 25th, 1985 when Nick was called home and passed away due to a sudden heart attack. Helene would always say though that their love didn’t end with his death but continued to blossom and grow and flourish through their children and her memories. Helene loved to spend her later years sitting and taking on the challenge of completing extremely complicated puzzles. She was a diehard Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the games and cheering on the Cubs Her favorite times would be spent in Antioch, Illinois spending time up at Lake Marie at the summer home. She loved sitting by the lake, reading her stories of faith and inspiration magazines, watching the sunset and going fishing. Helene was the loving wife of the late Nick Nickles; loving mother of Louis Nickles, Constance, Hildegard (Van) Perrine, Walter (Maggie) Nickles; dear grandmother of Heather Nickles and Melissa and Haley Nickles; dear sister of Harry (Lois) Chaveriat, Hildegard (Eugene) Hochstetler; dear aunt of many.
