Paul W. Hamel, 76, of Lawrence, MA, went to the Lord October 15, 2020 surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness at his home. He was a man of faith, his family was of most importance to him. He was born in Lawrence, MA, July 29, 1944 to Joseph L. and Yvonne L. (Dube) Hamel.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jacqueline (Comeau) Hamel of Lawrence. The loving father of Paul W. Hamel, Jr. and his wife MaryTheresa, dear grandfather of Zachary and Shannon Hamel of Holland, MA. Devoted brother to Yvette Richards of Holbrook, MA, Terry Wagget of Pembroke, MA. Albert Hamel of Salem, NH and Roger Hamel of Newton, NH. The late Doris Alakel, Roland, Raymond, Father Joe and Richard Hamel, many nieces and nephews.
Paul was an active member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Lawrence. He volunteered as extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. He participated in weekly adoration. He was a frequent altar server for funerals. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Lawrence Council #67. He was avid sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and Patriots. Paul served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967 as radio teletype operator stationed in Germany. He was a garment cutter for 40 years at the former Grieco Brothers of Lawrence.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, October 19, 2020 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street, North Andover, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Parish, 196 Main Street, North Andover, MA. 01845. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Andover, MA.
