Ronald J. Gizzarelli, Sr., 82, after a long illness, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at his home in Coventry. He was predeceased by his wife Grace V. Gizzarelli in 2015. Ron was born in Providence, RI to the late Frank and Juliette (St. Peter) Gizzarelli.
Ron was a people person who had all the right answers and had a wealth of Knowledge. He truly enjoyed his career working with the RI Council 94 AFSCME AFL-CIO as the Special Assistant to the Director, Council 94, helping fellow union workers. He was former President of RI State Rifle & Revolver Association, he was a member of the Tiogue Lake Association and the NRA. Close to 30 years, Ron worked part time, in addition to his career, with his wife at the family Pawn Broker business, Reliable Jewelry and Loan Company. Ron had proudly served in the US Air Force until being honorably discharged in the wake of his son’s passing.
Besides his life in business and politics, Ron was always looking forward to the next family get-together to share stories and laughs. Watching his children grow gave him great pleasure, but nothing more than watching his family grow in size as he gained the title of grandfather and great-grandfather. He held his grandchildren dearly in his heart and was always there for hugs and advice.
He is survived by six children and their spouses: Ronald J. Gizzarelli, Jr. (Libby) of Providence, RI, Jon R. Gizzarelli (Pamela) of Coventry, RI, Joy M. Coletta of Coventry, RI, Chris A. Gizzarelli of East Providence, RI, Doreen M. Courtemanche (Doug) of West Warwick, RI and Curtis H. Pettit (Brandon) of Coventry, RI. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a sister Joan Piccirilli of Warwick, RI. As well as several extended family and close friends. He is predeceased by his wife Josephine P. (Moniz) Gizzarelli and his two children: Debra D. Gizzarelli, and Robert Gizzarelli. The family would like to thank Alicia Lumpkin for her dedication and care to Ron during his illness.
Due to restrictions, burial services will be private. The family will be holding a Memorial Mass and gathering once restrictions have been lifted.
