Mary E. "Betty" Interrante

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Hanrahan) Interrante, 81, passed away Monday March 23 after a lengthy illness at the Seacoast Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center in Gloucester. She was born and raised in Gloucester and was the daughter of the late John J. and Ivy R. (Whynot) Hanrahan. Betty was a graduate of St. Ann’s High School, Class of 1956. There she was a speedy forward on the girls’ basketball team. Always full of energy, and constantly busy with her family and friends, was her style. Her makeup was one of ultimate caring for people, which is why she chose her profession in nursing. She graduated in 1958 from the Addison Gilbert Nursing School, which began her career of just over 35 years as a nurse at Addison Gilbert Hospital. Later in her retirement she worked part time as a nurse at Greycliff Nursing Home, now Gloucester Healthcare. She married the love of her life in 1959, John G. Interrante when he arrived home from his service in the U S Navy. John and Betty raised 4 children in their cozy family home and went on to be blessed with 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sadly, Betty lost John to medical complications from diabetes in 1989. They had shared 29 years of marriage. Betty was known to her coworkers, family, & friends as a caring, selfless, & bubbly individual. Always cheerful and ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Her many interests are her children & grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with friends & family to various Caribbean Islands, and trekking to countless bingo destinations throughout the Northshore with her close friend Phyllis Reardon. To say she’s was avid bingo player would be an understatement. Another of her close friends was Shirley Edmonds. Betty always continued on with fitness and walking clearly was her passion. She was her grandchildren’s favorite baby sitter and later on the walker of a series of grand dogs. Betty was always involved in her grandchildren’s high school, band and sports. She was a member of the Holy Family and Our Lady of Good Voyage guilds, Seafarer’s International Union, the Red Hat Society and the Rose Baker Senior Center. Betty is survived by her children, Robin Davis and her husband Steven Sr., Rochelle Graves the wife of the late Jeffrey Graves, John G. Interrante, Jr and his wife Kathleen, Joseph P. Interrante and his wife Christine; grandchildren, Steven Davis, Jr. Stephanie Graves, Emily Prestigiovani and her husband Anthony, and John G.
