Doris MacDonald

Mary Evelyn Doris MacDonald, 92, of Collingwood Ontario, died quietly and peacefully in her sleep early Tuesday morning. She was born to the late Matthew and Margaret Casey, February 27, 1922, in Perkins, PQ. Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, some may be surprised to learn of the extreme shyness of her youth. Yet even as a child, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humour. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanour that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten. She married the late Stuart MacDonald in 1961, and they lived together in England and Belgium before relocating to Canada in 1966. Doris was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, the Catholic Womens' League, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Canada, as well numerous community and neighbourhood organizations. She loved to travel and enjoyed several cruises with her husband throughout her lifetime. Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Seanagh MacDonald. She was aunt to Mike Denis, Linda Bouchard, Guy Denis, Marc Denis, Donna Leroux, Rory and Liam O'Ryan. She also is survived by her three grandchildren Shealynn, Erin and Ian and six great nephews, four great nieces, and two great grand nephews. Friends will be received at Fawcett Funeral Home, 82 Pine St. Collingwood on Saturday May 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be given to the local St. Vincent de Paul Society.
February 27, 1922 - April 29, 201402/27/192204/29/2014
